Electric Vehicles on Aran Islands

24 households in the Aran Islands will take part in a 3 year project to demonstrate the smart metering technologies required to transfer and store wind energy in electric vehicles.
On the 14th of January, the first 8 homes recieved their Electric Vehicles as part of the first phase of the project. The next 8 vehicles will be issued in 2012 and the last 8 in 2013.

Are Electric Vehicles the Future?

There is a lot of hype these days involving electric cars and whether or not they are the future of transportation. Are they really worth it? Is a range of 100 miles, 8 hour recharge times and that lack of power acceptable? The real question is, however, why are these electric vehicles (EV’s) becoming so popular?
